Three reasons you should break up with your marketing team.

September 27, 2024

It’s often hard to know when to call a relationship.  There’s no point in just going through the marketing motions if you don’t get results, and we’ve been seeing three HUGE problems running rampant in digital marketing lately that show the creators have no thought to consumer behavior, or driving results.

Every one of these red flags is a sign that your marketers no longer deserve your lovin’ and you’d be better off taking back the keys to your social media accounts.

QR codes in posts

The very concept that your customers will be scrolling social media with a spare phone at the ready to whip out and scan the photo - that will lead to a new link - that will then open on the second phone – is merely outlandish.  Are we living in the digital west where every consumer wears dual phones in holsters like a cowboy and his six shooters?  This shows that your marketer or social media manager has not given two thoughts to consumer behavior or how people consume media.  They shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near your target markets!

Link in Bio - on Facebook

Do you know why people write ‘link in bio’?  Not a tough one to answer.  On Instagram, if you have under 10,000 followers, you can’t share a link in a post or story.  Which means that if Instagram is your strongest social platform, you’re in for a much harder job getting people to your website, your ticketing system, or to take really any action other than like or comment.  It’s all well and good to be socially popular, but if people have to make multiple clicks and start searching to purchase, book or otherwise send you money – you’ll lose a lot of them along the way.

On Facebook it’s easier. You can share a link right smack bang in the body of your content driving people to take exactly the action you’re after.  For a paid marketing team to miss something so incredibly crucial could indicate a few things, possibly one or two of the below.

  1. They don’t really care whether your posts actually get you any useful actions
  2. They’re insta savvy but have no idea about Facebook or LinkedIn
  3. They’re all about social popularity. The metrics they check don’t have anything to do with driving traffic to any other platform than Instagram.

No links or CTAs on your social media posts

The lack of Call to Actions in social media posts is pretty well like paying for a drink which you then proceed to pour into the garden next to where you are sitting.  The drink will be enjoyed – by the garden, but it won’t benefit you at all.  Unless of course you want to sit there for long enough for the plant to grow and shade you.

There is an argument for backlinks to keep your website healthy, but if you’re not using links or CTA’s even that one doesn’t hold true.  It’s fine to build a community around your brand, but we would advise keeping posts that don’t serve a measurable purpose under 20% of your feed.

If your social media isn’t driving results, what is the point of pouring time, effort and money into it?  We might take a look at the healthy backlinks theory in more detail next blog, but for now, get your socials in order!  If you need a hand, reach out.  You can shoot us an email at rachel@powerfulperceptions.com.au, read more about marketing at www.powerfulperceptions.com.au or book in some social media training by calling on 0499 908 397.  See – 3 Call to Actions.  It’s really not that hard!
